Rumba Strumming lessons

- What is rumba?
- It is a type of flamenco, this style derives from the influence of Afro-Cuban Rumba brought back from Cuba to Spain in the 19th century but it is played with guitars and hand clapping. It is is 4/4, unlike other flamenco types. This can be one of the reason why it is so popular, as it is easier for the audience to relate to this rhythm.
- There are many different ways to play the rumba, I made several videos on different techniques to use.

- How do you call the fingers?

1. Rumba technique lesson No1

The sequence: hit, up (all of your fingers or just the index finger), down (all of your fingers), up (thumb).
- If you do the hit closer to the sounding hole you will get a deeper sound, although if you do the hit closer to the bridge you will get a harsher sound, you can also combine these two so your accompaniment will be richer. The guitar itself is like a drumming instrument every part sounds a bit different, so if you can hit it in different places while playing the rumba it will be very rich and rhythmical.
- It is very important to be relaxed with the wrist and warm it up before playing, otherwise it is hard to go fast.

The chords: Amin, Gmaj, Fmaj, Emaj.

2. Rumba technique lesson No2

The sequence: golpe, down (all of your fingers), up (p), hit, up (all of your fingers or just the index finger), down (all of your fingers), up (thumb).
- Practice it slowly and do not attempt to go fast before you are very confident! Once you are confident it is great to mix it together with different other techniques like flamenco triplet or the regular rumba. Try to practice with a metronome.
- It is very impportant to be relaxed with the wrist and warm it up before playing, otherwise it is hard to go fast.

The chords: Amin, Gmaj, Fmaj, Emaj.
